Harbour Rotterdam 2004

Sunday, May 23rd, 2004

Our first international tournament, against some strong European opposition. Fire qualified for the upper pool, almost beating Jack Suns (an eventual semifinalist). Thereafter our focus drifted rather to much to the cheese toashties, cheap beers and ongoing comedy moments. We nearly qualified for the final of the beer race by accident…it was a bit too close for comfort, but in general the theme of the tournament was very high GPM.

Congratulations to Maria and Kim for bringing the brolly back again with Bliss. Fire players seemed to be on the arena pitch for most of the last 2 days of the tournament. We could be found representing Bliss, Poughkeepsie, Catch22, KUPA, UTI, Chevron Action Flash & Fluid Druids.

Tour 1 - both Fire teams finish in the top 8

Sunday, April 4th, 2004

In our first ever Tour event Fire finish with both our teams in the top 8 - a fantastic achievement. However our first team will be aiming higher for the rest of the tour, after winning it’s first tour game against top seed Clapham 1 in pool play, Fire 1 slipped down to finish 6th. Fire 2 finished one place lower in 7th. Congratulations to LeedsLeedsLeeds for winning their first Tour final.

Pre Tour Punditry from the Voice of UK Ultimate

Tom Styles proves he’s a good sport by trying to predict the outcome of the tour again this year. This what he said about us:

Out of the ashes of last year’s tour 1 winners (Chevron South) come another big squad to train on Clapham’s common. There are some big hitters amongst the line up. Several ex Leeds and Druid faces will wear Fire’s Green. Jeff Jackson’s guiding hand is invaluable in the experience/training/fitness stakes. Fire1 are my favourites to upset their South London neighbours. They will win at least 1 tour (probably tour 1 ;-> ). Fire2 are a strong side but like LLLeeds2 may flirt with the drop on a couple of occasions.

2005 Charity Shield Tournament

Friday, March 12th, 2004

Well done Clapham, they got both their teams into the final. Fire 1 finished 3rd ahead of Icy Dykes from Amsterdam. Big thanks to Iceni for organising a fantastic party (featuring many comedy moments) and we hear the womens skills day was a great success too. The proceeds from this years tournament are going to WaterAid. Thanks to all the other teams for making it a great day.

Fire become 2003/2004 Winter League Champions!!!

Saturday, March 6th, 2004

Fire beat the top teams from the Northern, Midlands, Bristol and London winter leagues, as well as guests Amsterdam and Wall City Berlin to take the Winter League / Charity Shield title. Fire 1 dominated the tournament, winning all their matches decisively. Fire 2 finished a strong 6th, notabling beating Amsterdam in sudden death. We didn’t have it all our way though, Clapham took the prize for best comedy moment of the season so far thanks to valiant sideline efforts from Scando during the final.
